Konzerttour FIEBREfever 2009 Afrokubanischer FusionJazz mit Roberto Santamaria auf Tour in Deutschland Salsa, Soul, Rock, Funky, Jazz – let’s mix all, let’s play fusion. Roberto Santamaria aus Havanna bringt Weltmusik mit afrokubanischer Note auf die Bühne. Konzerte voller Energie – mit einem polyglotten Programm aus eigenen Kompositionen, Rumba der afrokubanischen Santeria und Welthits der 70er Jahre. Als Percussionist, Sänger und Entertainer reißt er das Publikum von den Stühlen und heizt ein. Kuba hat eine große Tradition und prägende Rolle im Latin und RockJazz, die mit Namen wie Julio Barreto, Irakere und der Percussion-Legende Mongo Santamaria (Roberto’s Onkel) verbunden sind. Roberto setzt diese Linie fort und vermittelt das Lebensgefühl, den musikalischen Aufbruch der 70er und 80er. Die Band besteht aus erstklassigen Musikern der kubanischen LatinJazz-Szene. Juni 2009 Masterclass und Workshops in Tübingen Rumba, Cha Cha, Rumba, Mambo, Bembe, Guaguaco, Salsa – Percussionisten, Jazz-Musiker und Anfänger haben die Gelegenheit, bei dem kubanischen Percussionisten Roberto Santamaria Unterricht zu nehmen. Bekannte Jazz- musiker aus Italien, Spanien oder Japan kommen regelmäßig nach Havanna, um bei Roberto Unterricht zu nehmen. SOMMER 2008 Tournee 2008 – CuBop Funk mit Roberto Santamaria (Kuba) Kuba ist bekannt für Buena Vista Social Club. Musikalisch bietet die Zuckerinsel viel mehr und ist die Wiege des Latin Jazz. Roberto Santamaria aus Havanna bringt mit seinen Fusion-Arrangements frischen Wind in die Musikszene, indem er Soul, Rock, Reggae und Funky mit Salsa und afrokubanischem Stil mischt. Erstmals tritt der Percussionist und Sänger in Deutschland auf – begleitet von „Oli Wendt’s CuBop Funk“. Roberto Santamaria entstammt einer bekannten kubanischen Musikfamilie. Sein Onkel Mongo Santamaria wurde in USA zur Percussion-Legende schlechthin und berühmt für seine Fusion zwischen nordamerikanischem Jazz und afrokubanischen Rhythmen. Seine Welthits „Watermelon Man“, „Afro Blue“ und „Para Ti“ in modernen Arrangements gehören ebenso zum Repertoire von Roberto wie neue Kompositionen, die er mit seiner Salsa-Soul-Band in den großen Clubs von Havanna aufführt, und sind Teil des deutschen Konzertprogramms, das ihn als ertklassigen Conguero und Sänger mit viel Soul in der Stimme hervorhebt. In Tübingen ist der Name Oliver Wendt eng verbunden mit Salsa (u.a. Salsa-Orchester „Bomba Limón“) und Latin Jazz. Der Berufsmusiker und Saxophonist greift in seiner Formation „CuBop Funk“ ausnahmslos auf Berufsmusiker zurück, die jahrelange Erfahrung in afrokubanischer und Musik haben und sich darüber hinaus im Jazz einen Namen gemacht haben.

JANUARY 2007 "Habana Fiebre" is the title of the promotional CD of Roberto's Santamaria Band. The music is based on the worldmusic legacy of Mongo but accentuates the picture in crossover tunes. Creative and relaxed is the fusion between modern, cuban music and classical Latin Jazz as well as North American Soul. NOVEMBER 2005 On November 20th, 2005 Roberto Santamaria gave a tribute concert for his uncle Mongo Santamaria in the prestigious Jazzcafé in La Habana, Cuba. Percussionist and Jazz legend Mongo Santamaria (Grammy in 1977 for "Amanecer"), born in Cuba and deceased in 2003 in Miami, began his career in the United States and became well-know for his combination of American Jazz with Afro-Cuban and Latin rhythms. Due to the embargo his albums could and can still not be purchased in Cuba and so far his music is not played. "I always had the dream to bring the music of my uncle back to Cuba", says Roberto, nephew of Mongo Santamaria and a percussionist like him, too. With his band "conFusion" Roberto Santamaria plays six pieces of Mongo's repertoire newly arranged: (Cuidad, Amanecer, Mambo Mongo, It feel so good, Watermelon Man, Afro Blue). Dr. Olavo Rodriguez, Director of the Cuban Institute for Music Research and History, acknowledged Mongo in his speech as one of the most famous musicians of Cuba. The concert is the start of a project, initiated by Roberto Santamaria, to combine Mongo’s music with new Afro-Cuban elements and international music. "My uncle stands for fusion", Roberto points out, "I want to continue this idea of his work."
